Like a month to a flame, this one is going to bring out some fun chat.

Also Ryan, Dejan and a few noted penguins homers have all come out and called this stuff old hat and that under the old regime it was swept under the rug.

Don't disagree with most of this... bottomline is we are stuck with him till the end of the season due to his contract status (being over 35)... Blame Shero and Disco and get on with your life

Craig Adams was the least valuable part of that 2006 Cup run. Much as some enjoyed his presence on the line, it was actually Kevyn Adams that dragged it around.

The "Adams Family" line was thought of in high regard, but even Rutherford recognized that that 4th line was better with a rookie Andrew Ladd on it as opposed to Craig Adams.

"I can tell you from experience nobody likes the try hard Rudy-type on the team unloading on your team's best players in practice."

- Ryan_Wilson

What experience would that be? This is pure nonsense. On a hockey team, this stuff happens all the time, especially among good leaders. My teammates and I would fight in practice, and we respected the hell out of each other for taking it as seriously as you would take a game.

What nobody likes is the primadonnas who take it easy or hot dog a practice because they think they're too good for it. You want to make sure your star player doesn't get blown up in a game? Teach him how to not get blown up in practice.

This isn't rec league or kids, these are professionals working on their game. They have no need to go around blasting one another and trying hurt one another. That's a stupid mindset.

Great write-up RW.

Like most others, I truly have no idea why he is dressing every night. I assume it is some salary-related kinda thing. They gotta pay him. They're up against the cap. Only have so many bodies....

As far as the practice thing, there is a fine line. I played several sports, hockey included. I truly believe how teams practice is how they play. If teams are chippy/physical in practice, they're usually chippy/physical in games. If teams practice passively, they are usually passive in games.

I'd be good with him bumping bodies here and there during practice as long as he didn't cross a line. Perhaps that line was crossed. I don't know. Wasn't there. And I agree with RW in that you cant go full Rudy on your teammates either.

I don't like him playing as much as anyone else but I cant crucify him for this w/o knowing the facts.

Craig Adams is the soul and heart of this team. I don't know why you all bash him. He is a leader and a great veteran presence. He doesn't score much but he is a shutdown player, grinds hard on the 4th line in the offensive zone and definitely isn't afraid to throw a check or block a shot. One of the best penalty killers in the league. Anyone who thinks Adams will be replaced with someone else is brain dead. He is not going anywhere, in fact, I would like to see him get third line minutes at the very least. He deserves a nice 2yr $2million extension this offseason.

The charts don't show up for me here at work...but knowing the style if the article is about Spalling, Sutter, Adams or Fleury i know the charts that have been choosen will show nothing but negative things so there is no real need to see the actual charts.

He pretty much guaranteed us the cup win. (By getting hit into Dwayne Roloson by Marc-Andre Bergeron)

Maybe Craig wants out and would accept a trade, or even a termination of contract. He doesn't seem happy

is anyone on this board really arguing for Adams?

For $700k on the 4th, Im not bothered by it. The extension by SHero was a huge blunder. What about Adams vs Glass? All teams have that crappy player for cheap and that crappy player thats overpaid. Just happens.

Now that I live in CO, I have a lot of debates on the old AV's teams. Id argue that Claude Lemieux was a great player for those teams. He didn't do much in the regular season, bud the dude was nasty and came up big every time. I hope Downie can be the Pens Claude.

Sarcasm font btw. I'd rather have a chewed piece of gum out there than Adams

Claude Lemieux scored 212 points in 297 games for the Avalanche during his time there... Averaged 59 points a season. If that's "not doing much".....

Kovacevic is hit or miss for me, but I agree with 100% of what he wrote last night:
I say this: Adams has to go.

Not just because he now has one confirmed incident of trying to hurt Malkin, a fight last week in practice, and now this reported sequel.

Not just because he’s the most dour guy in the locker room, with no close second.

Not just because the team doesn’t need any of the intangibles he allegedly brings but actually doesn’t.

No, Adams has to go because of all of the above and because he isn’t good at hockey anymore.

We've heard before that Adams could be a jerk in the lockerroom at times, and not that kind of jerk that is needed to get people going once in a while, but just a kind of miserable jerk.

Nobody likes the practice hero, and you especially don't need that in a professional lockerroom in the middle of a first place team's season. Maybe if someone has been half assing it, a wakeup call could be understandable, but so far, he's apparently gone after the guy who has been carrying the team for much of the season, and the organizations' best prospect. Unacceptable.

Maybe it's desperation... maybe he's feeling the heat of a few guys who can legitimately take his job, and he saw that when he was out, but that doesn't matter.

I can see him being the type that reminds everyone he went to Harvard in about every other sentence he says. Kinda like someone that is on a gluten free diet.
